saturday art jaunt
So, I had to work my regular shift in the Artists’ Coop gallery yesterday; here are a couple of pictures that I snapped. This month’s show is the All Members show, and the gallery walls are just packed.
Here’s a shot of just one of my displays this month:
After my shift ended at 1:30, I drove up to Hope Valley for the HopArts Open Studio Trail. Of the many studios and homes I stopped in, two were my absolute favorites. First, I’m sort of a “fiber nut” as well — so when I stopped by Linda Perry’s home studio, her wall of hand dyed yarns made my afternoon!
I picked up three hanks, and got her card. I will certainly be back down to get more. I like to make small felted bowls - with these hand dyed yarns and my beads, they will make darling additions to the gallery next month. Something different in addition to my jewelry…
THEN, I stopped by the Shaw Pottery Studio, just off Rt. 138 near where it hits Rt. 3. HEAVEN! In the main house, Patricia Arrow displayed her quilts made from hand dyed fabrics. I got a bunch of “snippets” which are the bits that were left over after she cuts the fabric. I think her term for them was “thrums.” Dunno - but the earth colors are going to go so well made into kumihimo strands for my large hole beads. Can’t wait to get working with them.
In the studio shoppe, Susan Shaw and her husband John Buscaglia featured her pottery, his wood turning, and some paintings and other art by Susan. What a GREAT FIND that gallery is! I’ll post a pic later of the wonderful dish I bought (such a pottery addict I am, especially when it is earth tone matte glaze - yummmy)…. the best part was talking with Susan about her interest in jewelry making and talking with her husband John about wood turning. My boy has a lathe and a great interest in turning, so John agreed we could work out some teaching time for him to learn from John. John’s bowls are just wonderful - finely done curves, interesting wood, sometimes raw edges — if you are in RI, you NEED to stop by this gallery.
