oh, spring. sooooo much going on at work, so that when i get home at the end of the day, i want to be “brain dead.” on the weekends when it doesn’t rain i have to rake and clean and prep my garden beds - just dug a new one for PURPLE roses out front. Can’t wait to see how they turn out! I actually gallery sat almost a week ago, and only am now getting to posting the pictures here… saturday sitting was fun really. started out a grey quiet day, and then had some amiable chats with gallery visitors. one man who quilts may submit work for jurying - i’m excited! we really need more varied art - i’d love to have more jewelry there. ( visit http://www.westerlyarts.com and check out what we all do - if you’re an artist, consider applying for membership )
Some photos of the work this month - you know how I love to share my favorites! Just click them for a full size photo.

ya, right, april fool! I finally FINALLY got back out in the studio over the weekend and made a bunch of bright beadies….. got this LUSCIOUS red glass and wanted to make some pulled hollows. Don’t you love the SHAPE of these things? (click the top photo and look on the right of the photo) I’ve been working on ideas for the Regional Juried Show at the CoOp - and the large bead with ivory and grey and pink and silver is one of the centerpieces of a half finished necklace. Once I’m done, I’ll show you the seed bead work that will support that beauty. Oh, it’s been too too long between postings = spring weather is waking me up again! Take a look - and ENJOY!

Today’s post is light on words and heavy on the visual. I gallery sat yesterday, and wanted to share some of my favorite works from this month’s show. ENJOY!
This month is also the Children’s Show, so here are a couple of wider shots of their work this month. (Middle school kids, grades 7 & 8 )

Tonight was the regular gallery stroll from 5-8. The back gallery is filled with children’s art, and our work is up in the front. The back is bright and cheerful - it’s a really great show.

Then, just two doors down, there was a Raptor demonstration. Here are a couple of shots from that - a screech owl and a red tail hawk. There is a raptor rehab in Bradford, RI, and they brought some of their raptors and gave a talk about them in the Old Stone Bank building. What a great space there.

Made it through to the new year, made it through those holidays…. and I’ve just assembled the piece I’m going to enter in the ISGB exhibit “Out of the Box” - now I’ve just got to name it. I’ve been asking everyone in the family over the past couple of days, and the only name I’ve liked so far has been “osmosis.” That sent the 14 year old into fits of laughter - “osmosis? we’re learning about that in BIOLOGY.” Here are a couple of pictures.

I’ve used the enamel technique and transitioned from grey and brown earth tones at the base of the piece and moved upwards using blues and teals, including some new transparent enamels I got over the holidays. The beads are assembled using wire, and are mounted to the base, which has been painted to echo and reflect the beads themselves.

today is cold - bitter, biting, windy, frigid - the first really cold day of this season. it would have been simple to stay home and stay warm, but the kids wanted to skate. we dropped them here for a few hours where they stayed COLD.
then, we, being the smart adults that we are, headed over to wickenden st. ! finally saw the roelle show at 5traverse - so intricate in person. amazing. then, went to Utrecht, and strolled up the street to the Z Bar. Look what kept me warm <along w/the company!>

Yesterday afternoon I set up in the basement of the Kent Performance Hall in Westerly - the gallery was invited to show during a Musica Dolce concert that is tonight. The basement of the hall, a former church, is dingy and old. The paintings and art, along with all the decorations, really brought life to it… here are a few pics of my own display. First, a couple of close ups, and then a further away shot - you can really see the clutter! I am going to take a couple of cloths I have to help “disguise” the tower of postal boxes that look as if they could tumble down onto my table at any moment!
