Today, Thanksgiving Day in a New England town, started out foggy and grey. I watched the sun rise, drinking coffee and listening to the ticking sounds of a quiet house. The sun pushed through the fog, and by 8:30 this morning it was 55 degrees…. unbelievable!
I took a walk, came back and started the dinner. At work, they laughed because this year I “outsourced” Thanksgiving dinner. Got it all from Whole Foods…. just have to reheat, really low key, low effort, relaxing.
The sun was so warm, we all sat outside and talked how we should have a Thanksgiving picnic…

The sun was so warm, so golden - it pushed away so much grey today. Inside and out, and for that, I am so incredibly thankful.

i really didn’t plan on raking today…. it was kind of cold, and all i wanted to do was work on beads and read (got a couple of magazines, a book too). but the boy had a friend over and they took a ton of leaves from the front yard to make this fort in the back yard:
it’s cool and all, but i ended up finishing off the front because it looked half done. actually the work was relatively quiet overall - a rake, me, the boys in the back yard… gave me time to think. in a way, it was a relief to just rake leaves into piles.
a couple of days ago i snapped a pic to put on the blog, but never did get around to writing and posting. pumpkin spice coffee. it’s the right time of the year for it now. i don’t think i really ate dinner even - just made a pot of coffee and sat reading the newspaper.

the whole family went up to Pawtucket last night for the Pumpkin Extravaganza…. here are three of the “pumpkin heads” we saw….

it is just so hard to get good photos of these things! i love the one in the middle, leaf head man. the detail up close was incredible! i’d love to try and do something that fancy this year. my oldest daughter also took pictures, I’ll see if she will share with me and I’ll post ‘em. I think she made out better with less blurry photos…

I’m a geek. My family will tell you, you don’t even have to ask - they’d volunteer the information. Case in point- today I went to the whole foods that will be opening on Wednesday for a free tour of the new store. Yep, a grocery store tour. Now, add to that the fact that pretty much every day of the week I go to whole foods for lunch because there’s one right near work. So I already know what stuff they carry in the store. The tour was great - this new store will actually have MORE stuff — like a mini coffee roasting station, and homemade pasta bar….. AND I came home with a bag full of cool stuff:

But then after I got home, there was a small antique show just down the street — so I HAD to go! Continue Reading »

Over my stove, I have a little plate with five bluebirds flying on it. I like to stop by a couple of consignment shops near home, and sometimes antique shops too. This plate was from “gallery 500″ which is a consignment shop. It’s gone through a few owners since I’ve been going there — it’s funny how the atmosphere and stock change depending on the owner. It used to be a great place for small things like plates. Now, it’s got really neat antiques like display cases, wooden boxes, tables, and things made from wood in general. I wouldn’t have found this plate there now….

I was looking at it while I stirred the broccoli and the ravioli tonight. I bought it because there are five of us in our family - I like the cluster of four birds and one going its own way. But it seems like the rest of the birds will also turn and follow too.
